Dosage Instructions by Weight

Our tincture bottle includes a glass dropper. For your dog’s safety, we recommend using a plastic oral syringe to administer the liquid formulae. One syringe is included with each package. These are also available from your veterinarian, feed supply or drug store. We recommend diluting the formulae with some plain unsweetened yogurt, heavy cream, baby food or applesauce in the syringe, this will help take the edge off the taste. See photo below for further instructions on administering liquid formulae. If your dog is willing to eat the herbs mixed with a snack size amount of food or a meal that will be just fine as well.

Canine Heart Tonic & Hawthorne can be administered in the same dose by mixing with plain unsweetened yogurt, heavy cream, baby food or applesauce and syringing into the side of your dog’s mouth or added to food.

Morning (Before Work) Canine Heart Tonic, Hawthorne, Dog Greens, Carnitine + Taurine
Afternoon (After Work) Canine Heart Tonic + Hawthorne
Evening (Before Bed) Canine Heart Tonic, Hawthorne, Dog Greens, Carnitine + Taurine

*If you are home during the day or go home for lunch, you can administer a dose of Canine Heart Tonic and Hawthorne at lunch time for a total of 4 doses per day.

Please note: Our 2 oz tinctures contain approximately 70 droppersful or 2400 drops of formula. One squeeze of the rubber top of the dropper fills the pipette approximately half full (35 drops), this is considered one dropperful.

Canine Heart Tonic 1 drop per pound of body weight. Given 3-4 times daily.
Hawthorne Tincture 1 drop per pound of body weight. Given 3-4 times daily.
Dog Greens 1/2 teaspoon per 10 pounds body weight 2 times daily.
L-Carnitine & Taurine 500 mg (1/2 level scoop) L-Carnitine per 10 pounds of body weight and 250 mg (1/2 scoop) Taurine per 10 pounds of body weight given twice daily mixed into meals or syringe fed. DO NOT HEAT.

If your dog is weighing over 80 lbs you will dose him at the 80 lb dose.

Kidney and Liver Cleansing Instructions

When giving Hepara-Cleanse + Blood Cleansing Tonic or Rena-Cleanse + Immuno Aid wait at least 15 minutes after having given Canine Heart Tonic and/or Hawthorne. This allows the body to focus on one area at a time. Giving specific formulae too close together will not do any harm, it will simply lessen the effectiveness of the formulae.

Hepara-Cleanse 1 drop per pound of body weight to be given with Blood Cleansing Tonic. Given 3-4 times daily for one week.
Blood Cleansing Tonic 1 drop for every TWO pounds of body weight to be given with Hepara-Cleanse. Given 3-4 times daily for one week.
Rena-Cleanse 1 drop per pound of body weight to be given with Immuno-Aid. Given 3-4 times daily for one week.
Immuno-Aid 1 drop for every TWO pounds of body weight to be given with Rena-Cleanse. Given 3-4 times daily for one week.

Hydrotherapy

Probably the most effective therapy in any natural healing program, hydrotherapy has been used for centuries to cure every type of disease. From the Greek physician Hippocrates, John Floyer in England, Vincenz Priessnitz and Sebastian Kneipp in Germany, Benedict Lust to the famous John Kellogg and O G Carroll right here in North America all used hydrotherapy to cure illness.

Hot water brings blood to the surface of the skin, which is why the skin turns red, it relaxes the body by expanding blood vessels and loosening the muscles. Cold water does the opposite; it contracts the muscles and blood vessels sending the blood on the surface deeper into the body and organs. By alternating hot and cold you increase circulation in the body. Blood carries oxygen and nutrition to every cell and organ in the body, when blood is restricted to any area of the body that area will eventually die. Imagine your pet’s diseased heart as a partially dried sponge starving for water, over time without water it will dry up fall apart. By feeding your dog a proper diet and loading his blood with the right herbs and nutrition, hydrotherapy will ensure your pet’s heart will receive everything it needs to heal.

The first time we started hydrotherapy to treat sick animals we would do the whole body, we later began applying hydrotherapy directly to the sick areas and we noticed miracles. Heart murmurs that still lingered after healing dog’s hearts disappeared. A brutal sinus infection that was bleeding and unstoppable for 6 months disappeared after only three days of hydrotherapy. Dogs that were diagnosed with a ripped cruciate ligament healed in weeks. These are just a sample of the amazing healings we have personally seen, I mention these to illustrate how strong the healing power of hydrotherapy is.

Instructions:

You will need to shave the hair from the area on the left side of your dog’s ribcage by his armpit. You should be able to feel the heart beating; this is how you will know you are in the right area. If you are not sure where the heart is located ask your veterinarian to show you.

Put your dog in the tub, you will need a hand sprayer. Turn the water on warm and apply to the heart area. Get him used to the water, after about a minute turn up the heat to the hottest setting you can handle without burning yourself. Keep this on his heart for one minute. Then turn the hot water completely off and spray the cold water for another full minute. Repeat this for 10-15 minutes at least twice a day. (See photo below.)

End on warm to relax or cold to invigorate. You will notice when on warm your dog may yawn or even start to dose off and on cold they will perk right up!

Alternative Method:

If your dog is too weak to stand in the tub for 10-15 minutes or he is too stressed by water a second best option would be to use hot and cold packs. The best are the gel packs you can find at the pharmacy that you can warm up in the microwave and cool by putting in the fridge or freezer (you will need two packs to do this). The routine is the same but instead you will be placing the hot pack on for 1 minute, then switching to the cold pack for one minute, back and forth for 10-15 minutes.

WARNING: If your dog is very sick, in heart failure or in a later stage of heart disease start off using only warm and cool water. Over a week’s time slowly building up to the therapy as described above.

If you're anything like me, your "pet" is your best friend, a member of the family, and the light of your life. So watching your pet get older is anything but easy.... My world kinda stood still when the Vet told me after a recent check-up that she had an enlarged left ventricle in her heart and thus was in the beginning stages of heart failure. Heart failure? My Abbey? No... Abbey's heart was x-rayed again, and the Vet said, "I am not trained in holistic medicines. I am a medical Doctor, but whatever you are doing, if it's not bothering Abbey or making her sick, don't stop doing it." Abbey's enlargement had shrunk! And in Dr. Goté's own words, "significantly". It had shrank to the point where it was not pressing on her breathing tube anymore (which is what causes the gagging and coughing). I was beyond happy. I was elated!... Try it. It works. You and your best bud won't be sorry! Many happy and healthy days to you all!!!*

Hi and welcome to Five Leaf Pet Botanicals. My name is Amanda Banting, I am a Herbalist and the founder of Five Leaf Pet Botanicals.

We have been helping dogs with kidney, heart and liver disease live happier, healthier, longer lives for over eight years. Please read my story below to get an idea of who we are and how we can help.

Fourteen years ago one of my seven dogs, Tom (he was 6 years old at the time and my eldest), was diagnosed with heart disease, he was given only 6 - 12 months to live. I was devastated. My dogs are my children, so I could not accept his prognosis. I was already practicing natural healing and was very knowledgeable in the power of herbs as medicine, but my education had focused on treating humans, not canines. I, like many other dog owners, thought dogs were dogs - they were fed kibble, brought for walks, given vaccines here and there and they would live into their teens, hopefully dying in their sleep.

Since all my dogs were still young and relatively healthy up until that point, I never had to think about treating them with herbs and natural healing. Since the Vets had given me no hope for Tom and actually told me flat out ''there is no cure for heart disease'' I felt I had no choice but to take matters into my own hands...
